Community involvement

Domestic violence impacts the entire community, and at Tubman Family Alliance we believe that increased community awareness and prevention of domestic violence go hand in hand. Whether through our Violence Prevention Program in metro area high schools or outreach events in the community, increasing public awareness of domestic violence is a priority at Tubman. We also have trained staff and volunteer speakers available to present on a variety of topics that can be customized for your event and audience.  You can also sign up for weekly family violence action alerts and legislative updates.

Timberwolves Recognize Tubman Volunteers

On December 22nd, 2006, the Minnesota Timberwolves paid tribute to a group of local volunteers and a made a one thousand dollar donation on their behalf to Tubman Family Alliance.

Students from Kennedy High School in Bloomington spent many hours volunteering at Tubman during the holiday season. They worked in the shelter, spending time with children making crafts, playing games, and even arranged a photo session with Santa Claus for Tubman families. As if that wasn't enough, the students also raised a thousand dollars to match the Timberwolves gift to the agency.

In addition to the donation, the Timberwolves provided tickets for the volunteers to attend the game vs. the Milwaukee Bucks on the evening of the 22nd. Of that group, three students (pictured above) were selected to receive the donation check at center court during a halftime ceremony. The event was organized by the Timberwovles Fastbreak Foundation.
